Hi everyone,

Last Saturday I went to see a little two-month-old Staffie and her nose isn’t completely black yet. I was wondering, will it darken as she gets older? Here’s a photo of the little girl showing how her nose pigmentation has developed; the most recent photo is the one at the bottom right. Thanks for any advice!

Hi there, According to Staffy breed standards, the nose should indeed be black and not spotted with pink. In the photos, you can clearly see that the pigmentation on his nose is changing and darkening over time. Your dog is still a puppy, so the pigmentation should keep developing. What colour are his parents' noses? That might give you a clue about his future nose colour. I think you just need to wait and see how it develops, as this pigmentation process can take quite some time. A discoloured nose can be a sign of a medical condition (like albinism or 'snow nose', where the nose turns pink when there's less sunlight). Hope this helps, Anais. Both his parents have black noses and there's only black in his genetics. My vet told me she's 98% sure it's going to turn black, thanks for your reply.

Hi there, According to the breed standards for Staffies, the nose should indeed be black rather than spotted with pink. Looking at the photos, you can clearly see that the pigmentation on his nose is developing and getting darker over time. Your pup is still a baby, so the pigmentation should continue to fill in. What colour are the parents' noses? That might give you a clue as to what your dog's nose will eventually look like. I think you just need to wait and see how it evolves; this pigmentation process can take a bit of time. A discoloured nose can sometimes be a sign of a health issue (such as albinism or 'snow nose', which is when the nose turns pink due to a lack of sunlight). Hope this helps, Anais

Okay, thanks very much. I haven't actually got her with me yet and I’d like to get her confirmed later on, which is why I’m asking.

Hi there, it’s possible that their nose will turn black but it can take a bit of time. Your puppy might have 'snow nose', which can be linked to using plastic bowls, but it also happens as dogs get older. Either way, your dog is absolutely lovely 😌😎✌
