Hello everyone! I'm brand new to the forum and delighted to be joining you for the simple reason that a little male Staffie joined our family on 21/12....

We've absolutely loved this first month with him.

He's our first dog and I'm a bit concerned about his weight... looking through the forum, I've seen Staffies much bigger than mine and it's making me a bit worried.

During his booster jabs yesterday, he weighed 3.6kg (about 8 lbs) at nearly 3 months old, as he was born on 25/10.

I'd just like to get a rough idea of a month-by-month weight chart for this breed, please...

I'm attaching a little photo of the star of the house 😉

Thanks in advance

Best regards

    Hi there,

My Staffie is 5 months and 2 weeks old today. When he was 5 months, he weighed about 22 lbs and he's quite slim. But he’s doing brilliantly; they’re all different sizes and weights and their genetics often just kick in with a bit of a growth spurt when they’re 5, 6 or 7 months old. You’ll see, I don't think you've got anything to worry about! He’s gorgeous, by the way!

    Hi Jizz,

I’ve got a little 6-month-old male who is also on the smaller side for the breed, but he’s doing great anyway. At 6 and a half months, he weighs 11kg (around 24 lbs or 1 stone 10 lbs); it’s not much, but he’s well-proportioned and a real looker.

There’s a brilliant site for this called Belpatt.fr.

You enter your dog’s weight every time you weigh him, and it gives you a live weight chart that you can compare with the average for other dogs of the same breed on the site, based on a target adult weight.

For instance, here is my boy’s chart, and the blue line is the average curve for an adult Staffie of 15kg (about 33 lbs or 2 stone 5 lbs, so not a big dog at all). My dog’s curve drops off quite clearly at one point; that was when I changed his dry food and he didn't settle on it at all, so he stopped gaining weight for about 15 to 20 days.

I’ve noticed that with Staffies, there are loads of males that are way over the breed standard and much too heavy. I’ve come across tonnes of Staffies weighing between 20 and 23kg (about 3 stone 2 lbs to 3 stone 8 lbs), even though the standard says they should be between 13 and 17kg (roughly 2 stone to 2 stone 9 lbs).

If Belpatt is anything to go by, mine will probably end up between 14 and 15kg (around 31 to 33 lbs), but that’s no bad thing since I live in the city.

Hi Beaujabote 😉 Yes, you’re right, the vet told me everything was fine, but I don’t know why I got so worried. It was mainly seeing 33lb Staffies at 5 months old lol, I was just a bit scared he wasn’t eating enough... Anyway, thanks for your reply!!

Hi there, He’s absolutely adorable. If the vet hasn’t said anything, then your dog is doing just fine. It’s funny, but I’ve noticed that Staffy owners who post on here generally worry about two things: 1) Is he the right size? I think he’s too small, and 2) When is he going to "pop" – as if we were talking about popcorn! Just give your little lad time to grow; as long as he’s healthy, there’s no need to worry at all! 😁
