Staffordshire Bull Terrier Weight

Hello everyone! I'm brand new to the forum and delighted to be joining you for the simple reason that a little male Staffie joined our family on 21/12....

We've absolutely loved this first month with him.

He's our first dog and I'm a bit concerned about his weight... looking through the forum, I've seen Staffies much bigger than mine and it's making me a bit worried.

During his booster jabs yesterday, he weighed 3.6kg (about 8 lbs) at nearly 3 months old, as he was born on 25/10.

I'd just like to get a rough idea of a month-by-month weight chart for this breed, please...

I'm attaching a little photo of the star of the house 😉

Thanks in advance

Best regards

    Hi there,

It would have been lovely to see a photo of him now that he's all grown up!

Hi there, First off, you managed to meet your dog’s parents, which is a really good sign of how your pooch is going to turn out... Obsessing over your puppy fitting a breed standard can actually be detrimental to their growth and stop them from becoming the adult dog they're supposed to be... Whether he’s 4 or 5 lbs over or an inch shorter, he’s still your little bundle of fluff that you adore... As for mine, he’s quite tall with long legs; he’s 7 months old and weighs about 32 and a half lbs (around 2 stone 4 lbs). He doesn't look "chunky" at all, he runs around like a rabbit and eats 360g of dry food a day...

Okla is 7 months old and weighs about 31 lbs, which seems massive to me. She’s on puppy dry food and doesn’t get any table scraps, apart from some chicken breast. She goes for an hour to an hour and a half's walk every evening where she runs around with other dogs. I’ve seen the vet, and they said she’s doing fine. Her dad was quite stocky, but I’m still a bit worried to be honest...

Hi! This Thursday I’m finally going to pick up my little Staffie, but he already seems quite big for his age—nearly 10 lbs at barely 2 months old.

He’s got such a lovely round face... 🙂

And as mentioned in the previous posts, just be patient and let him develop at his own pace – he's still very young!

Hi everyone!!! Sorry, I’ve only just seen your replies 😕.

Thanks Jmosse for the website, I’ll get Sky registered as soon as I’ve finished this message!! It’s a brilliant idea actually...

Cheers Lucatri, he really is a looker and right back at you with yours! Ah, right, I didn't realise that about the 5/6/7 month mark...

Stenad, yours is a real character lol!! No, quite the opposite, I waited 18 months to decide on the breed; I have two young children and I didn't want a dog with the heavy bulk of an American Staffy... We wanted an active, sporty dog like us, with a lovely temperament and a love for kids, so we are CHUFFED!! I was only worried because I hadn't seen any male Staffies under 9 lbs at 3 months old, but your messages have put my mind at ease. I love him as much as my kids and he's our first little guy, we just want the best for him 😉.

My vet (it was my first visit), who I asked about it, told me he should be gaining about 2 lbs a week... mine has barely put on 4.5 lbs in a month and yet he eats plenty!! But you’re all right, the vet said everything is spot on and that’s the main thing!

Liya, thanks to you too, you’re absolutely right and that comparison with humans is so true....

I’ll keep sharing photos regularly if you’d like 😉

    Have a lovely evening, everyone!

Hi everyone, First of all, your pups are all gorgeous! I have a 17-month-old Staffy, and she currently weighs about 34 lbs. My breeder taught me a lot about the size and weight of Staffies. In fact, even in her own litters, no two dogs are the same. You’ll get the stockier "bully" type that might be between 33 and 37 lbs, and then you have the "balanced" type—lean and athletic—who can be anywhere from 33 to 44 lbs. I know a Staffy who went right up to 44 lbs (about 3 stone)... They’re just like us, all different. Take someone who weighs 12 and a half stone—that’s going to look very different on someone who is 5’11” compared to someone who is 5’3”, for example. If your vet hasn’t said anything yet, it’s because everything is fine, especially since he’s still growing. So, as mentioned before, give him time to fill out. Also, don't forget we're talking about Staffies here and not AmStaffs... they are two distinct breeds, and one isn't just a miniature version of the other... Have a good day.

    Hi everyone,

I also have a Staffie, a female who is 19 months old.

She weighs 15.5kg (around 34lbs) and fits the breed standard perfectly.

It’s just my personal opinion, but I feel like a lot of people don’t really know the standard, or they want their Staffies to be much bulkier 🙁

A Staffie isn’t a very tall or heavy dog.

My girl started to broaden out across the shoulders after 14 months (doing canicross, mountain biking and swimming once she was past 12 months old).

You’ve just got to give them time.

And for me, the most important thing is having a dog that is healthy and happy and well-balanced.

    Have a good day.
