Is bamboo toxic?

Hello hello, fellow pet lovers!

So, today during my work experience at a local park, I came across some bamboo (just the stalk, not the leaves). Knowing how sturdy the plant is, I thought it would make a great little toy for my pooch, so I cut off a few pieces. Then I started worrying that it might be toxic for him, so I did a bit of digging and found that the leaves are toxic to cats and can cause stomach ulcers. However, it didn't specify if the stalk itself is toxic or if it even affects dogs. I was wondering if any of you might know more before I give this new toy to my little whirlwind so he can have a good gnaw on it ^^ Hope you all have a lovely day!

I give my dog some every day—thanks to the neighbour’s bamboo growing onto our land! I only give her this year's shoots though, the ones that are still flexible and fresh. It really does her good as she used to have a bit of a problem with runny stools, which the bamboo has totally sorted out. Her poo is much more fibrous now, so I reckon bamboo is great for adding fibre and it’s good for her teeth too.

It's not toxic, seeing as it's used to make bowls and plates.

But it is indeed sharp; even with monkeys, they are only given the stems when they're green and flexible to avoid any risk of internal injuries.

Bamboo itself isn't toxic, but never give it to them! It’s like giving them razor blades! Get it in the bin straight away!

Hi! I’m not sure how it translates for dogs, but from a human perspective, I remember a nasty experience with some dried bamboo... When I was little, I snapped one in half and I remember really slicing my fingers on the sharp edges. I’ve never tried it again since then, as I wasn't sure if I just had a stroke of bad luck or if dry bamboo really is that sharp. I hope others here can shed a bit more light on it for you!
