Does a Staffie need a coat in winter?

Hi there, I’ve got a 6-month-old female Staffie.

I was wondering if it’s necessary to put a coat on her when it’s cold out?

I’ve often heard that Staffies really feel the cold and that you have to be careful.

That said, I don't want her to get too used to being wrapped up, but today for example it’s forecast to be -4°...

And if I do get her something, what should I go for? A fleece-lined windbreaker or a puffer jacket?

Cheers in advance

Let’s face it, when I saw my dog refusing to go out and shivering like a leaf, it was obvious he needed a coat. It’s a no-brainer. Mind you, if you’re like my neighbours who have a Samoyed, then a coat is obviously pointless.

Same for Newton. A waterproof coat with a lining.

I don't know what happened, I dreamt about Newton last night! We were going to a restaurant and he took off his coat because it was too hot inside. He actually let me stroke his little tummy! It's very, very rare that I dream about dogs (or any animals for that matter)...

What do you actually know about dogs? And what are you doing for the homeless! Honestly, it must just be one of those nights! Clearly more than you—I save their lives and house them for the winter! And you? You're putting coats on dogs??? Save the humans first. Go and look after humans then, since you’re clearly incapable of looking after a dog, and go find somewhere else to bother!

Some people forget they're just dogs!! Give that puffer jacket to a homeless person freezing to death!!

What’s the harm in protecting a dog that feels the chill? (Not all breeds or types of dog are built to withstand the cold.)

And what on earth does buying or making a coat for your dog have to do with helping people in need? One has never stopped the other; that logic is just silly...

Besides, try giving a dachshund-sized puffer jacket to someone sleeping rough; I’m sure they’d be thrilled ^^

(During her last winter, my old girl Falbala had become even more sensitive to the cold than she’d always been. We knocked up a little jacket out of an old woollen jumper for her, so she could enjoy her last winter nice and toasty by the log burner in her little knitwear, like the little old lady she was. Her homemade jumper looked a bit ridiculous, but at least she was comfortable :) )

We found Tibidou’s mum tied to a tree with wire! Two days later, she gave birth to the little thing in the photo above! All’s well that ends well! Newton is a right little prince and his mum is doing really well today. He turned one yesterday.

Same for Newton. Lined waterproof coat.

Ohhh, he reminds me of the dog I saw at the RSPCA that they wouldn't let me adopt because I didn't have a garden – no garden = no dog... so cute

Yeah, it’s exactly like us—if the dog is just standing still or walking slowly, he’s got no chance, he’ll catch a chill in no time. I must admit, I hadn’t really thought about it. I was brought up in a family where dressing dogs up is seen as ridiculous... But actually, it’s not that daft after all, and anyway, it’s not like he’s wearing a dress!
