Spitz size and weight

Hi everyone,

I'm posting because I have a question about my puppy.

We adopted a Pomeranian-type puppy (not KC registered, so not a "proper" pedigree). According to the vet, he hasn't got as much fur as you'd see on other purebred Pomeranians because of a bit of dietary seborrhoea from the private breeder we bought him from, as well as some scaly skin we're treating. With the right food, his coat is growing more and more every day. As time passes, he's starting to look more like a Spitz, and we're already in love with his cute face and playful personality. A real bundle of joy!

I have a quick question about his growth, though. We're well aware that you can't get a proper purebred Pomeranian puppy for less than £1,750, but we aren't bothered—we didn't want a show dog, just a great companion. However, we find Yoshi very small and we're wondering how big he'll be as an adult.

He's 10 weeks old (born 28/10/2018), weighs about 1.5 lbs (680g) and measures 15 cm (about 6 inches) from the ground to the tips of his ears. That's not to the withers, so he's about 8 cm (roughly 3 inches) at the shoulder. Could you tell me roughly what his adult size might be?

Thanks a lot!

He looks like a Spitz and Chihuahua mix... are you sure he isn't a crossbreed?

He's a Pomchi... they're really popular at the moment, just like the Pomsky 😊

Hi everyone, joining the chat a bit late. I’ve just had the joy of bringing home a little ten-week-old Spitz; he stands 12cm at the withers and weighs about 3 lbs. He’s an absolute darling! I’m wondering what sort of size and weight he’ll end up being—my vet reckons he’ll stay small, around 11 lbs at most. What do you lot think? I must admit, I’m a bit lost with the typical weights and sizes for his age. Thanks for any replies.

Mine looks just like yours! At 3 months old, he weighs just under 3 lbs, and his mum is 3 years old and weighs about 9 lbs. My vet told me he’d reach about 30 cm in height and a maximum of 11 lbs...

Well, for his adult size—well, at 8 months anyway—ours is 4 lbs and 8 inches at the shoulder :) Just for comparison

Oh my goodness, he really is tiny! 🥰🥰🥰 He must be a miniature. I just love these little fluffballs.

Hi everyone, I’m joining the thread a bit late. I’ve just had the joy of welcoming a little 2-and-a-half-month-old Spitz; he’s 12cm at the shoulder and weighs 1.4kg (about 3 lbs). He’s an absolute darling! I’m wondering what size and weight he’ll reach eventually. My vet says he’ll stay small, around 5kg (roughly 11 lbs) max. What do you lot think? I must admit I’m a bit lost with the various sizes and weights for his age. Thanks for your help.

The ultimate little scrap! ^^ At least we’ll be able to travel with him without putting him in the hold (properly traumatic 😭) and he can come along with us. Thanks so much for your reply :)

He won't get to 40cm as that's the size of my English Cocker Spaniel. I reckon he'll be more like 25cm, or maybe even less, I don't know.

Hello, thanks for your reply! Yes, he’s black and tan. We’ve got an appointment on Monday with a dog trainer to help us socialise him with other dogs. We’re taking him everywhere with us because we don't want him to end up being a yappy little thing, as this breed has a tendency to bark a lot. The vet says he’ll be between 5.5 lbs and 10 lbs, but she’d be surprised if he ended up being more than 6.5 lbs. I just can’t really picture what that means in terms of height, though. Whether he’s 10 inches or 16 inches tall doesn’t really matter to us, but people have been asking us constantly for the last fortnight and I’ve got no idea what to tell them! ^^
