Hi, please help! :(

So, here I am with my little two-month-old Makki. He had his first vaccination today at 3:30 pm and it’s been a nightmare...!

He’s crying non-stop; his left leg where he had the jab is really hurting him. I went back to see the vet and they told me it's normal...

But I'm really worried...

What can I do to ease his pain? It’s breaking my heart seeing him like this. He’s eating but he isn't walking; he can’t even put weight on his left leg, even when he's lying on his left side...

Please help!! 🤧

Just to let you know, everything is fine and he's doing much better. He was a bit sore for the two days after his jab, but that's normal and he was quite tired. No need to worry! 👍🏻😊

Good evening, I’m writing because I’m extremely worried about my little 4-month-old Chihuahua... I’m in the same boat as @Lila994.

So, my dog Bambi had his second jab today. The vet injected him in the skin at the back of his thigh—right or left side, I can’t quite remember. I don't even dare touch him now because he cries as soon as he tries to move or walk, or even if I try to stroke him. I’d like to know if this is normal? His breeder did the first vaccination, and I’ve just had his second one done. I don’t know if it’s normal for him to be so poorly and sad, or in so much pain that he can't move or walk.... He’s staying warm with me in bed but he can't move. I'm so worried and it’s making me feel awful seeing him like this. Does anyone have any advice or can you tell me if it’s normal for him to be in so much pain that he's not moving? Should I go back to the vet?

    Thanks,

    Kind regards, Miss Kelly

@Jador yeah, I see what you mean. He’s been asleep until now and honestly, he’s doing much better!

@docline haha, oh that’s going to be tricky then because we’re already constantly fussing over him as it is, but since he was in so much pain, it was even more than usual. If he’s enjoyed the attention, I imagine he’ll be wanting even more of it! ^^

If he’s been jabbed in a spot where there’s not much padding, any injection can be painful. On the other hand, if he’s realised that whimpering in "intense pain" earns him your sympathy and makes you fuss over him more, you can definitely count on him to milk it for every little scrape in the future LOL

A jab doesn’t really hurt. At most, there’s a bit of soreness where they had the needle and sometimes a small lump forms, but nothing more than that. Dogs don’t usually react much more than that. I did notice some slight diarrhoea the following day, but whether it was actually down to the jab...

@Jador to be honest I’m not exactly sure where, I just know his left side is really hurting and he’s keeping his left leg bent all the time because of the pain... Sorry if I’m not explaining myself as well as I’d like!

He’s sleeping now so I’ll wait until tomorrow, and if he’s still in just as much pain I’ll follow your advice and contact another vet!

But is it actually normal for him to be in pain in the first place? :(

Well, I’ve never seen a jab given in a leg before! New technique maybe?!? Just like with humans, vaccines go straight into the muscle, in a nice fleshy bit (like the arm or the bum), and for dogs, it's usually done in the scruff. I really hope your vet didn't hit a nerve. One thing is certain: whatever you do, don’t try giving him any painkillers, and absolutely no paracetamol—it’s incredibly toxic to dogs. Go and see a different vet tomorrow if he’s not any better. Poor little guy...
