Why is the final stage of mating not happening? (The tie)

Hi everyone, basically, I'm trying to mate my little princess, Molly, with her boyfriend, Leo. We’re roughly on day 12 of her season, and this is the second day I've taken her over to the stud. As soon as they saw each other, they 'went for it' and Leo mounted her straight away to get down to business, but the problem is they still aren't reaching 'the tie'... which is the final stage of the mating. I was wondering if any of you had some advice on how to make sure that final stage actually happens. Thanks.

I'm quoting Vétopsy: "The fact that the animals don't stay 'tied' isn't necessarily a sign that the mating has failed, as the 'tie' only involves the prostatic part of the ejaculate: however, the litter size will be smaller." >> http://www.vetopsy.fr/chien/ethogramme-chien/reproduction-chien/coit-chien-saillie.php#:~:text=Le%20fait%20que%20les%20animaux,la%20port%C3%A9e%20sera%20moins%20nombreuse.

No, she’s talking about the tie, which is the stage where the male stays locked inside the female (due to the swelling of the bulbus glandis and the contraction of the vaginal muscles). https://www.thekennelclub.org.uk/dog-breeding/mating-process-in-dogs/

    Hi there,

If I understand correctly, what you’re referring to as the "tie" is when the penis enters the vagina?

It’s possible Léo is just getting a bit too over-excited and is struggling to aim properly.

If you’re comfortable doing so, you could try guiding him to help this final stage happen.

Do be careful though, as there’s always a risk that Léo might nip or bite, and please don’t force anything if it’s not going in!

    Best wishes,

    Eloïse
