My dog bit a field mouse

Hi everyone,

A few minutes ago, my dog bit a field mouse! I've wiped his mouth with a tissue and some water.

I've just called the vet and they asked if Snoopy's vaccinations were up to date! (Yes, they are all up to date.)

She told me to keep an eye on him over the coming days, weeks and months, and also advised me to worm my dog again.

I was wondering if anyone else has ever been in this situation!

I'm worried the field mouse might have had a disease and passed it on to my dog... (It's the first time he's bitten a little critter...)

Thanks in advance for your replies!

Just like most of these little guys! Unfortunately, my brother and I end up having to clear away about two mice, wood mice, voles or rats from outside our place every single day! Great that he’s still such a handful... or rather, it’s good to see he’s doing so well! 😁 Mind you, frogs... that must be a bit different!

I Love Pet, yeah, the main thing is that he’s doing well. :)

In the end, it died just a few minutes after Snoopy bit it. :/

    Don't panic, it’s nothing!

My dog’s crunched a mouse before...

It didn't bother her at all – it was the mouse I felt sorry for!

Haha, you’ve put my mind at rest then. :3

I think he wanted to play with it but it scurried off so fast he must have got a bit miffed and nipped it. x)

Anyway, you’re right, he’s doing fine and he’s still just as much of a... handful as ever. (a)

Personally, I’d rather he stuck to field mice than frogs.. :p

Anyway, thanks so much. :) I need to stop panicking, it’s usually nothing serious. ^^'

I'm not sure... I was really surprised... I've never seen him do it again. But then, I'm not with him all the time, am I? lol He’s a proper little hunter of creepy-crawlies, I have to say. A real little fox lol

Mine used to wolf them down whole only a few months ago (before she switched to BARF, actually), and she’s doing just fine :D

I wasn't the one who caught them, but they were all quite skittish, and mine was the worst of the lot.

They were fine in their own world, but in the human world... it was just pure stress!
