My dog has a lot of "eye gunk" at the moment. Sometimes it's like crusty bits around the eye, or a white discharge.
What should I do? What could be wrong with him?

I think I’ve worked out what’s causing the discharge. Since it’s so hot at the moment, I’ve been opening the car window (only a crack, not like in the films haha). I didn’t realise that could be causing the running.
My dog’s eyes have been running more than usual at the moment too—actually, more than yours from the looks of your photos.
I use an eye wash to clean them; it’s better than just plain saline as it acts as a bit of a disinfectant.
Personally, I wouldn’t bother with the vet for something so minor. I’d just keep cleaning them and keep an eye on things. If it gets any worse, then yeah, off to the vet.
With this heat, my dog is always looking for a cool spot and tends to lie in the workshop where there’s a bit of a breeze. So, draughts + dust = runny eyes.
Does yours like to sit in a draught to keep cool?
I use saline solution every day for Elastic (he’s a breed with droopy lower eyelids).
Years ago, while on holiday, I trusted a chemist who sold me some special dog eye drops for my poodle. She’d been swimming in a stream every day and had irritated her eye. I got a right telling off from the vet when we got back; it turns out I’d nearly blinded my dog with a product that was completely wrong for the situation.
Evening all,
Sterile saline pods are really good, or even colloidal silver...

I always keep some in my first aid kit (for both the family and the dogs) because in our house, things always seem to go wrong at the weekend!
The best thing is to see the vet, though.
Is it a Labrador that goes in the water? (Watch out for reeds). I’ve actually seen a dog have a really bad reaction to seagrass flooring in a bedroom... it was an allergy.
Just a quick observation: with all my Labs and Goldies, if they have too much sugar in their diet, their eyes start running with a yellowish discharge (a bit like a touch of conjunctivitis).
Mine are raw fed on the BARF diet (so they only get sugar from fruit or a treat once a week, like little bits of pancakes or homemade brioche).
