Hi everyone, I’m supposed to be picking up a Kennel Club registered puppy from a breeder soon, but after doing a bit of digging, I’ve realised that while the mother is KC registered, she hasn’t actually been "confirmed" (received her official breeding clearance) yet. From what I’ve read online, if one of the parents hasn't been fully certified by the time the litter is born, the puppy can never be fully registered itself. I brought this up with the breeder, and they told me that because of COVID, they now have until 6 months after the birth to get a parent certified without it affecting the puppy's official pedigree status.

Is this actually true? Has anyone else heard about this?

Thanks in advance for your help.

I'm not quite sure I follow what you mean. My dog is KC registered from two pedigree parents and I had her "confirmed" when she was a year old. This happens at dog shows that you have to sign up for; you present the dog to a panel of judges who examine her and confirm that she meets all the breed standards. From that moment on, her pedigree status is fully confirmed. You have to stay on-site all day, with the dogs grouped by breed, for the members of the public who come to visit the show.
