Hi everyone, my girl had surgery three days ago for a uterine infection. Yesterday, while I was giving her a cuddle, I noticed that some of her stitches have come out and she’s bleeding a little bit. What’s worrying me most, though, is that she has a large lump, about 15cm (6 inches) across, around the area. As for how she is, she's very tired and isn't really moving from her bed, but she's eating and drinking well and doesn't have a temperature. Has this ever happened to any of you?

Hi everyone,
I’m back with an update a week later; I’ve finally got some answers and everything’s back to normal. As it turns out, it was actually the spot where my dog had been vaccinated. Basically, during her op, the vet took the opportunity to get her vaccinations up to date (she had three of them). The two lumps that were getting bigger and seemed painful for her were just due to her having a "bad reaction to the jab". As of today, her cone is off, the lumps have gone, and everything is fine. In my case, the lumps were just a reaction to the vaccine, but I’d definitely recommend getting in touch with your vet if you notice the same symptoms. You never know, and it's better to be safe for your dog's sake. Plus, since it was part of her post-op care, there weren't any extra fees. 😎
Have a lovely evening!

Hi there, yes, definitely don't hesitate to see your vet; it's all part of the post-op recovery... keep us posted... I think Tosca had a small one on her scar too, but it cleared up.

Thanks everyone for your replies, I’m taking him to the vet tomorrow. Even weirder, a lump seems to have appeared on the left side this time. I’m honestly completely baffled. I’ll wait and see what the vet says tomorrow. I’ll keep you all posted on the outcome, so if this happens to anyone else, they’ll have some answers.

Hi,
It’s quite common for there to be a bit of pain, minor bruising, or tiredness after surgery without it being anything to worry about. However, if you’ve found a lump that’s big enough for you to feel, that could be a concern. Plus, from what you’ve mentioned, it sounds like your girl is in some pain.
Don’t hesitate to give your vet a call and don't leave it too long. Even though spaying and neutering are routine procedures, complications can still crop up, and it’s always best to act as soon as possible.
Explain the situation as clearly as you can over the phone and the vet nurses will let you know if you need to bring her in. Vet practices are staying open during the lockdown, so you shouldn't have any trouble getting through to them. Regarding travel, I believe you just need to count it as "essential travel" for medical reasons.
Hope all goes well,
Best regards,
Solène

There’s always a risk of infection following surgery. Keep an eye on their temperature and general well-being, and get them to the vet as soon as possible.
