Odd behaviour with her cuddly toy

Hi everyone,

I'm trying to understand why Fiona is "acting" this way with her cuddly toy. She got a new plushie a few days ago, and she's behaving quite strangely with it.

She hasn't shredded it (which is very rare for her), and she's taking great care of it.

She hides it at the back of her crate and sits on top of it so no one can take it. She also dives under the duvets with it in her mouth, and if we're unlucky enough to take it from her, she jumps up and whines until we give it back.

In the end, we don't actually play with her using this toy because I feel like it's driving her a bit mad.

Then she'll pick it up in her mouth, wander all over the house with it, and look for THE perfect spot to hide it and herself away.

If she can't find the right spot, she whines and paces around in circles.

Does anyone have an explanation for this?

She told me it looks like a phantom pregnancy; plus, as you said Tania, the timing seems to fit, as does the fact she cries if she hasn't got it with her, and so on.

I’ve got to check her teats, and if I notice anything unusual, I’ll give them another ring. Otherwise, when I drop her off on Friday morning, the vet will give her a check-over before I leave and let me know if we can go ahead with the op or not.

    We will see!

No, except when we go for a walk, then she leaves it behind. Right, I'm calling the vet now.

Hmm.. yes, so I think that's another sign as well. She won't let go of her comfort toy?

Oh, and I forgot to mention that she didn't want her raw food this morning; I had to take it right over to her crate to get her to eat...

Don't worry, Génésys has a phantom pregnancy after every season. She's currently on some herbal supplements—agnus castus and artichoke—to help her get through it. I hope it works! x

Don’t worry, give your vet a call and book an appointment, they’ll be able to help!

I really hope it doesn’t turn out to be that, though.

Blimey, it was late October, early November. That could match up...
