Odd behaviour with her cuddly toy

Hi everyone,

I'm trying to understand why Fiona is "acting" this way with her cuddly toy. She got a new plushie a few days ago, and she's behaving quite strangely with it.

She hasn't shredded it (which is very rare for her), and she's taking great care of it.

She hides it at the back of her crate and sits on top of it so no one can take it. She also dives under the duvets with it in her mouth, and if we're unlucky enough to take it from her, she jumps up and whines until we give it back.

In the end, we don't actually play with her using this toy because I feel like it's driving her a bit mad.

Then she'll pick it up in her mouth, wander all over the house with it, and look for THE perfect spot to hide it and herself away.

If she can't find the right spot, she whines and paces around in circles.

Does anyone have an explanation for this?

As for Génésys, her teats are quite enlarged, and milk came out when the vet felt them during the examination.

Ah, I've read the comments, so if her nipples aren't swollen it might be nothing, but we'll just have to wait and see... Either way, I really hope for her sake that it's not a phantom pregnancy.

Yes, I went to see him yesterday, thanks :)

Anyway, we'll see what the vet says on Friday morning, nothing to do now but wait.

Yes, they say you should take away their comfort toys, so you've definitely done the right thing there.

As for the swollen teats, yeah, I reckon there are different stages to it.

Do you mean this could happen over the next few days? I took away her cuddly toy while she was out on a walk with my partner; I removed it, but when she got back, she was looking for it everywhere... I gave her a bone and played with her, which distracted her a bit, and she was fine after that.

I’ve had a look at her teats, and I haven't noticed anything out of the ordinary compared to usual...

The mammary glands that get the largest at the start of a phantom pregnancy are the two closest to the vulva. I’m going through the same thing with Génésys. And don't worry if she isn't spayed yet, the RSPCA can still trust you! 🙂

Yeah, I think it can wait, you're right... If her teats are swollen, don't "massage" them, be careful.

    Keep us posted.
