My puppy hardly eats anything in the morning

Hi everyone!

I’m starting to get worried because my 6-month-old pup hardly ever eats in the morning (I’ve tried feeding her at different times too).

I’ve tried dry food, wet food (I’m not a huge fan but it’s the only thing she eats somewhat easily), and various homemade meals.

She walks up to her bowl and then just walks away... even though she seems hungry...

But in the evening, she gets the same meals and usually has no trouble at all...

When she’s at my mum’s, for instance, she eats more easily too...

The vet advised me to only leave her bowl out for 15 minutes and then take it away if she hasn’t eaten, so she learns she has to eat when the food is served and not just when she feels like it...

I’ve also tried leaving her dry food out while I was out during the morning, but she didn't touch a single bit, even after I got home...

She’s up to date with her worming, has no health issues, and she’s dominant but not at all aggressive...

It bothers me because I hate the idea of "starving" my dog, and it leads to a lot of waste too...

Anyway, if you have any explanations or solutions, I’d love to hear them!!

Thanks a lot

My "little" wolfdog also only eats in the evening, whereas my "big girl" would eat all the time.

Yes, one meal a day can be enough, provided it’s a larger portion.

Keep an eye on your puppy's weight, growth, and general well-being. If no red flags appear, it could simply be that one meal is enough for her, or you might need to rethink her portions. Her dinner might be a bit too filling for her daily needs, meaning she just isn't hungry during the day.
