Puppy's joints clicking

Hi everyone,

Loki will be 3 months old next week. For the past two days, I've noticed a clicking sound coming from his back end, but I'm not sure exactly where it's coming from. It sounds just like a joint popping and it happens all the time.

Do you think it's serious? The vet asked for his parents' history; they both have good scores and there's no history of dysplasia going back several generations.

We're seeing the vet again in a month, but I'm really worried about the little lad.

P.S. He's still running and jumping about everywhere, but he seems to have some pain and stiffness when we stretch out his back right leg.

Thanks for your replies.

In a month’s time we’re going back for boosters, so I think I’ll ask for an X-ray.

You're right, even if he doesn't seem to be in any discomfort, the best thing would be to take him to the vet for an X-ray... Poor little lad... :/

However, my husband touched his leg earlier and said he felt a clicking sensation in the knee. He doesn't seem to be in any discomfort, though. He’s currently on Royal Canin German Shepherd Junior.

Honestly, I don't think that’s a good sign! It might be a bit early to say it’s definitely dysplasia, but those are the symptoms... You’ve got to remember that genetics isn't everything! It only accounts for about 20% of whether a dog will be dysplastic or not; the other 80% depends on the environment and the puppy’s lifestyle. If they’re jumping around, using stairs, walking or running for too long, or not getting a good enough diet... then yes, there’s a high chance the pup will develop dysplasia even if their parents didn't have it! So yes, it is serious and you need to be really careful! I’d recommend getting some supplements (YuMOVE Young & Active); they’re really effective and will really help your dog! My Saint Bernard had issues with his legs that have cleared up now thanks to those supplements! You should also look into their food (I’m not sure what you’re currently feeding your puppy), and make sure to stop them jumping and going on walks that are too long!
