Hi there,
Thank you for the really helpful advice. It’s reassuring to know that this can happen and that by disinfecting it, we might see it start to clear up.
If that doesn’t work, we’ll get them to the vet as soon as possible.
We’ll keep you all posted.
Kind regards, PR
Thanks for your reply.
We’re going to book an appointment with her vet first thing tomorrow; I really hope it’s just inflammation, but the lump is quite round. It isn't oozing any pus and looks a bit whitish.
Thank you for the helpful advice.
Kind regards,
PR
Either the head has been left in the skin and an abscess is forming, or it's just a reaction to the tick being removed.
Make sure to disinfect the area and keep an eye on it; if it gets really hot, swollen, or starts oozing pus, see a vet straight away. To help speed up the healing process, you can apply some organic thyme honey, which has the added bonus of natural healing properties. Just a heads-up, dogs love the taste (and it’s perfectly safe for them).
Also, keep a close eye on the colour of your dog's urine over the next few days, and watch out for any signs of fever or lethargy. Ticks carry diseases that can take a long time to clear up or can even be fatal; the sooner you act if you suspect anything is wrong, the better the chances of successful treatment!
