Wormer and vomiting

Hi everyone,

Yesterday morning I gave my dog her worming treatment; I made sure she had it on an empty stomach. I fed her at lunchtime, but by late afternoon she threw everything up, and then a second time, but that was just mucus. Should I be worried? I’d read that wormers could cause diarrhoea, but I didn't think they caused vomiting... Thanks in advance for your replies, have a lovely day!

    Hi everyone,

Yesterday, for the first time, I gave my little ones some Dolthène (a dewormer). They both vomited about an hour later, and it happened two or three times each. It wasn't just mucus, it was their actual meal (which they’d eaten about 45 minutes before taking the medicine)... The vet told me they might just not have tolerated it, but I found his explanation a bit thin, to be honest.

Hi, if it’s the first time she’s been on Drontal, it’s one of the possible side effects, especially in the case of an overdose!

Evening; Which wormer did you give him? Some of them can cause vomiting... (like Drontal, for example). But as Angeline said, give your vet a call.

Hi there, it’s true that diarrhoea can happen, but I’ve never heard of worming treatments causing vomiting either... I think you should give your vet a ring and ask them over the phone, I’m sure they’ll be able to give you the right advice 🙂
