We live in a residential complex of three blocks of flats and there are about ten dogs in total—not many, you might say.
But for a while now, there's been more and more dog mess around the estate and it's becoming a real pain! The caretakers have been warning the owners but nothing's being done about it.
There are also people who own a garage in the complex but don't live here, and they just let their dogs foul without picking it up.
We’ve also got a little green area next to us and it's an absolute nightmare there; you have to tip-toe through the plot because the ground is like a minefield!
I don't know what to do. I've already put up homemade signs but there’s been no change (I mean, honestly, why would they bother looking at their own behaviour? "We've always done it this way!").
This kind of antisocial behaviour makes my blood boil (if I knew who it was, they’d definitely find their "presents" neatly wrapped in their letterbox).

My mum lives at the end of a cul-de-sac where a little Chihuahua kept leaving its messes right in front of its owner. One time, my mum ran into the lady at the top of the street: "Hello! Ooooh, so you're the little dog who's been pooping in front of my house then?" (she said it quite loudly). The lady looked very awkward. But the poop was still there, so one day my mum finally had enough; she picked it all up and placed it neatly right on the lady's doorstep. There hasn't been any poop in front of my mum's house since! ^^
Mmm, neon flowers blooming with a "distinctive" scent... I'd actually love to see that idea in action. ^^
As for the poo bag dispensers, the ones around here are rarely stocked. People just grab them in bundles of 20 and I honestly wonder what they're doing with them all. 🤷 Because of that, I’m not even sure if the council even bothers refilling the dispensers anymore...
Behind my mum’s place, just past her fence, there’s a block of flats, and people come to let their dogs cr*p right there in front of her garden... along with plenty of other "landmines" scattered all over the building’s grounds.
She’s contacted the council and the housing association that owns the building, but nothing’s been done – they barely even got back to her... Cheers for the "eau de turd" wafting through the house if she has the misfortune of wanting to air the place out. It's lovely, especially in summer when the heat makes the stench even worse. 😒
Yeah, or you could just leave it all on their doormats lol! Mind you, that means there’s a bit of detective work to be done first.
Totally off-topic, but does anyone know the series "It’s Bruno"? The episodes are really short, but it really made me laugh.
It’s about a guy and his dog, and in one of the episodes there’s a newcomer in the neighbourhood who doesn’t pick up after his dog!!
I’m just picturing a possible solution, though it’d definitely take some work 😈
Pick up every single bit of poo and put them in bags (poo bags, obviously, and in really bright colours), and leave the bags open as well 😈 then you’d have a lawn covered in little red or pink bags... Passers-by and those owners who don't pick up after their dogs will be left wondering, "What on earth is all this today?" It might actually get through to them more than any lectures about the law or respect... Especially when their pooches decide they’d rather play with all those little bags and send them flying everywhere before they’ve even done their business 😂 I’d love to see that!
Mind you, it’s not really necessary where I live, but it’s a good prank that might leave more of an impression than a poster...
I think it’s bad enough on the pavement as it is – treading in dog muck is just gross! Then you’ve got the people who let them go on the grass and don’t bother picking it up, thinking "it’s fine, it’s in the grass"... WELL NO!! I’m always so wary when I’m walking across a patch of grass because it’s often like a minefield!! It’s honestly so disgusting.
Around my way, people generally pick up after their dogs if it happens on the pavement (the vast majority anyway). However, in the field opposite my house, nobody ever cleans up and I’m not really surprised... mind you, it’s not exactly overrun because it’s quite a large area... maybe it’s different where you live!
Yeah, the advice from the others is pretty good, I can’t think of anything else.
It’s so frustrating to see that some people still don’t pick up after their dogs. In my town, the council has installed plenty of bag dispensers and they’re refilled regularly. Yet they’re often empty because people raid them—clearly not for cleaning up, though, because the pavements are becoming more of a minefield every day.
I’ve had so many run-ins with owners who simply refuse to scoop.
I just don’t get it: it’s not exactly pleasant, but plenty of baby nappies are far worse!!
Round my way there are loads of people who don't pick up after their dogs. I saw a message chalked on the pavement, "pick up your ****", with the poo circled in chalk, and yet it’s still happening!! As for the dispensers, I’m not against them, they're handy if you’ve forgotten a bag, but it can lead to people taking liberties. Some towns tried it and ended up with the poo bags being stolen, lol!! I hope the pavements were clean after that at least!! Basically, instead of taking one bag, people were taking 40 or so, or even the whole lot... People are lovely, aren't they... as usual.
