Hi everyone,

My 8-week-old puppy often gets the hiccups. I'm just wondering if this is normal. She usually gets them after her meals, and she had them during the night as well.

Is this normal? And is there anything I can do about it?

Thanks

I went through the same thing with my Newfie when he was a tiny pup; don't worry, it'll clear up on its own.

Okay, thanks. It seemed a bit odd to me because my first dog never had it. If it’s normal and nothing to worry about, then that’s fine :) Thanks!

“Hiccups are most often linked to an expansion of the stomach, located near the diaphragm, after a meal that is too large or gobbled down too quickly.”

    Thanks, Wikipedia!

Just like with us humans, I don't think it's dangerous at all, so you've got nothing to worry about.

Hi there! My dog was just the same when he was a puppy; he had hiccups all the time. The vet told me it was completely normal, though I didn't actually ask why... it lasted until he was about 6 or 7 months old, usually after meals and during playtime too. It’s very rare now, though! I really don't think there's anything to worry about. :-)
