Hi everyone,

I’ve recently noticed that my 4-year-old dog has these fuzzy, hairy-looking paw pads; see the photo below:

Does this look familiar to anyone?

Thanks

Hi there, My girl had a similar issue, though it didn't get quite as bad as it has for your dog. In our case, it followed a paw pad injury that took quite a while to heal. She had to wear a sock and a bootie. I noticed a kind of fuzz on her pad that looked a bit like velvet. This happened whenever she'd walked on wet ground and the water had seeped through the boot. When her paw dried, it looked like scales. I was worried it might be a fungal infection, so I let her paw breathe at night and while indoors. I also moisturised her pads before bed. It eventually sorted itself out. I use coconut oil for moisturising. Hope things have cleared up for your pup anyway!

    Hi Ludo 19

Maybe try softening the hard skin on the paw pads?

Perhaps see if applying some olive oil or a soothing cream like a paw balm helps to soften them up... (do a little patch test first).

I'm curious to know how your little one gets on...

Hi there, It looks like hyperkeratosis, but I’ve never seen it that long before... I don’t want to steer you wrong, but I’m fairly sure the vet can trim it back for you. You might also want to look into adding some zinc to their diet...

    Well, that’s certainly a strange one! 🙄

Could you let us know what it was once the vet has given their diagnosis?

Not yet, we've got an appointment in a fortnight.

I don't think it's an emergency, as it doesn't seem to be bothering him.

    Have you seen a vet?
