Dogs in bakeries?

Hi everyone ;)

Right then (blimey, it's been ages since I last posted! ^^)

Earlier today I was at the bakery with a friend, and a woman came in with her dog (a German Shepherd). The baker asked her to leave her dog outside, but the lady didn't want to (she was worried he'd bolt, with all the cars and people around...)

So she didn't put him outside, and she was asking what the issue was as long as he stayed sitting by the entrance...

Anyway, the baker wasn't having any of it for some reason or other ^^

They both got quite worked up about it...

In the end, the lady left empty-handed, without buying a thing....

What do you lot think?

It's just one example, but it's like this in so many places!

Hi, I’ve had the same thing happen with my dog... I tried a few different bakeries and finally found one with a dog lead hook, so it makes my morning walk so much easier! Having a chat with the shopkeeper, they mentioned they’d bought it from a specialist pet equipment site. Just a little tip for fellow dog owners!

Yeah, that's for the big dogs because some people are scared of them...

Yeah, but like I’ve said several times now, I didn’t say I couldn't understand in a bakery, but in a garden centre for instance, well, I just couldn’t manage it!!!

Evening nina, well I understand, it's a hygiene thing. If the baker got an inspection on the very day the German Shepherd was in the shop, she’d be in a right mess. For the rest of it, it just depends on whether the person likes animals or not. Once I was out with a friend for a drink, back when I still had Bonita (a Dogo Argentino). We went in and sat down, and the waiter asked if we could go to the outdoor seating area. I said "but it’s raining", and then the owner showed up. I asked him if he was scared and he said "no, it’s just that I don’t want animals on the premises". I said to my friend, quite loudly, "right then, we’re off". At that point he felt bad and asked if she was well-behaved. I said "Bonita, sit", she sat, and he said "oh, alright then, you can stay". I told him "no, sorry, but I’ve never been treated like that before" and I went to the place next door instead. As I was leaving, he came over to talk to me and apologised. I go to his restaurant regularly now and we’ve become mates. He’s learned that dogs can be friendly and obedient too sometimes ^^ Anyway, that's my little story :) it’s all about people's attitudes.

    Yeah, garden centres, DIY shops...

    It's just a total joke!

"I get why a baker wouldn't want a dog in their shop."

Of course, but that's just one example. I once wasn't allowed into a garden centre with Hades. He's hardly going to scoff the poppies, is he!

It’s just that dogs aren’t allowed anywhere food is involved. Take big supermarkets, for instance (Tesco and the like). They’re usually fine in non-food shops, but it’s purely a hygiene thing, really. Dog hair can end up on the food, and that’s what bakers and others are trying to avoid by keeping dogs out. Personally, I still go into every bakery with my Chihuahua.
