My 3-month-old puppy has some blood in her stools, just a tiny drop. Her poo is quite soft but she doesn't actually have diarrhoea. I went to the vet, and they just prescribed some Smecta and something to help regulate her gut flora (I'm not sure if that’s the right way to put it).
But I'm really worried!!!
What should I do??

Hi,
My 3-month-old puppy has some blood in her poo, just a tiny drop. Her stools are soft but she doesn't actually have diarrhoea. I've been to the vet and they just prescribed a stomach settler and some medicine to help balance her gut flora (I'm not sure if that's the right way to put it).
But I'm really worried!!!

Hi there,
I'm having the exact same issue with my 7-month-old Spitz. How did things turn out for you in the end? Any updates please?
Please call your local emergency vet right away. Severe diarrhoea, especially when it's bloody, can be fatal for young puppies within just a few hours.
Hi, I have a Bull Terrier and some puppies. They’re sick, they won’t eat and there’s blood in their poo. I tried to bottle-feed them but they don’t want to eat, and the tiny bit I managed to give them, they just threw up. I don't know what to do anymore; I'm really worried and the pups are only 2 months old. The mum was sick with a fever and stopped eating; she's starting to eat again now but the puppies are really not doing well.
Hi,
My 3-month-old puppy has blood in her stools, just a tiny drop. Her poo is soft but she doesn't have diarrhoea. I've been to the vet who just prescribed a digestive aid and some medicine to balance her gut flora (I'm not sure if that's the right way to put it).
But I'm really worried!!!

Hi everyone, I’m also having the same issue. Milo is two and a half months old and only joined the family yesterday. The little guy has blood in his stools, soft stools but not diarrhoea. I contacted the breeder straight away and they told me that if it’s still happening tomorrow, I should fast him for a day and then start his dry food again. I can’t help but worry. Does anyone have any advice, please?
Thanks everyone!
My Guizmo had this same problem a week ago: haemorrhagic enteritis. It's really scary to see, but it is treatable. With some intestinal binders and digestive food. Hang in there; for mine, it was caused by anti-inflammatories.
Keep calm... no matter what. Keep an eye on his poo, go back to the vet if things get worse, and check if his food is okay. If the food doesn't suit him, wait until he’s feeling a bit better before switching, just to avoid putting him through a change when he's already feeling poorly.
My dog had bloody diarrhoea... he was passing nothing but blood... You can imagine the panic, but you've really got to stay calm; stressing him out doesn't help anything.
How long did it take to get back to normal? My 8-week-old puppy has started having bloody diarrhoea as well. It's only just started—what should I do to make it stop?
Hi everyone, I’ve got the same problem as nyron with my 4-month-old female Beagle, Malina. Since this evening, she’s had a few drops of bright red blood right next to her stools. I bought her in Belgium on Friday and she was doing perfectly fine. The breeder gave me some Royal Canin junior dry food, but as I ran out, I bought some Pedigree Junior chicken and rice yesterday. Could the blood be down to the change in brand? Thanks in advance for your replies.
Hi everyone, I’ve just got a female Pitbull pup, she’s only six weeks old. I have the same worry—my little girl is passing a few drops of blood every time she does a poo. This is really concerning; could it be down to her food or her digestion given how young she is? @célinéo, you seem to really know your stuff on this, so I’d be really grateful if you could get back to me. Thanks!
Hi everyone,
We’ve had a little black Spitz puppy called Louna since Saturday night; she’s three and a half months old. This morning when we got up, there were two or three drops of blood next to her poo. Is this serious? We’re really worried as we’ve only just got her. We went to the vet to have her microchipped and for her second vaccination booster—could this be a reaction to the jab? The breeder told us she was wormed last week and isn’t due again for another three weeks. What should we do? Thanks for your advice.
