At what age does a puppy's eye colour change?

Hi everyone!

As you might already know, I’m getting an Australian Shepherd in a few weeks. He has a red tri-colour coat and blue eyes. I’d like to know at what age, on average, their eye colour changes... just to see if this colour is likely to be permanent or if it will change soon.

I’ve looked at loads of photos online and it seems that red tris with blue eyes are actually quite rare.

Also, do you think odd-coloured eyes are common in this breed?

Here is a photo of my pup's eyes to give you an idea of the colour:

I’ve got a question regarding this – I have an 18-month-old Australian Shepherd whose eyes were blue when he was a puppy until about 4 months, then they turned pale green (sage). I noticed today that his iris is starting to look blue around the edges? Could it be that his eyes are changing colour for a second time?

    Thanks to both of you.

Yeah, it’s not the most important thing, I’m just curious really.

Whatever happens, my boy will still be a handsome lad!

My Aussie had "mint green" eyes until he was at least 6 months old.

    Now he has golden eyes.

Some people will tell you the coat colour is "set" by four weeks, while others say it can keep changing until they’re a year old. The best thing is not to worry about it and just love your dog because they're "one of a kind". They’re yours, after all!
