Bowed front legs – any advice?

Hi everyone, I’m new to the forum, so please let me know if I’m not doing this right.

A week ago, we brought home a lovely two-month-old Cane Corso puppy, Razzia. We’re having a bit of an issue now as her front legs look very bowed after she’s been walking for a while—it’s at the point where she’s actually limping. Does anyone have any advice? With the lockdown, we can't get to see our vet at the moment 😥. Thanks in advance!

    Thanks for getting back to me. What breed is your little Ylang?

    My little Ylang had a similar issue, which was sorted out by raising her bowls.

    Hi there, I picked up my little puppy a week ago and for the last two days I've noticed he has the exact same problem as the puppy in that shocking photo. He’s also been used to Pedigree Junior and I haven't started transitioning him to a more complete food yet. It looks so worrying that I was planning to take him back to the vet on Monday (he had his first jab last Monday). Before then, I’d like to know if your puppies are doing any better and if the change in food was enough, or if I should still get him checked out. Hi, Could you let me know how the vet appointment went? I’ve noticed the same issue with my 2-month-old puppy that I got 4 days ago... At times his front legs bow and tremble. He doesn't seem to be standing properly. But he doesn't seem to be in any pain... Thanks for getting back to me.

    Hi there. They need some extra calcium and you should raise their food bowl. In the meantime, try a few massages around the joint. One of my dogs had the same symptoms and it really sorted things out. Best of luck.

    Thanks; what dry food would you recommend? I’ve just called my vet and they agree with you about changing her kibble, given the specific needs of this breed. I’m going to switch her over immediately, making sure to do a proper transition. He said that this alone might solve the problem. If not, I’ll need to give her a supplement.

    How is your puppy doing?

    On our end, we rescued a Frenchie cross pup from an abusive home. She was severely malnourished and has a deformity in her hindquarters and back legs. There was a very pronounced bowing in her back legs; she used to fall over a lot and really struggled to stay sitting up while eating.

    Over time, the bowing is hardly noticeable now. We’ve done loads of exercises to build up the muscle in her little legs. She goes out every day for a bit of a run. Eventually, she stopped falling over altogether and no longer cries out in pain.

    The vet told us that it would always stay like this, but that she’d be able to live a pretty normal life.

    In my opinion, your puppy will soon find a way to work around the problem.

    Hi, is your dog better now? I’m having the same issue as you. I also think there might be a problem with this dry food.

    That photo of the bowed legs is really quite shocking. So your vet said it didn't need an emergency appointment? Has he actually seen the photos? Because it's very striking (I'm repeating myself, but 😯);

    Until you can get her seen, as @doudou said, I’d cut down on her walks right away if she’s in that state after 30 mins 🤪 Like @doudou said, 10-15 mins max... (but several times a day!)

    Switch her dry food as soon as possible and maybe even try some puppy supplements! (My dog had some too and they really helped her).

    And as mentioned above, if I were you I’d still contact the breeder anyway...

    Hang in there, take good care of your little girl while there’s still time, and hopefully she won't have any lifelong issues, if that's still avoidable...

    I don’t know what your budget for food is... but there’s a choice to be made for your little one... either some really high-quality dry food or other types of feeding to help her growth and muscle development... if you can, try to avoid dry food with grains (wheat, maize, rice... which have too many carbs).
