Strange behaviour with her dry food

Our 11-month-old Boxer girl has been acting a bit strange lately.

When we give her dry food in her bowl, she tips the bowl over and takes great care to move the kibble into a corner, or even makes little piles before eating them...

Has anyone else experienced this before?

What could be causing it?

I've tried changing the bowl, washing the bowl... nothing works! It's always the same palaver.

Cheers everyone!

Hi, my husband has inherited his mum’s dog. I don’t want her myself but I’m being forced to put up with her. She makes a mess and gets food everywhere when she eats, and when she drinks you can literally track her by the trail she leaves behind.

Hi, I’m having a similar issue with my dog. The problem is that he takes his dry food and just plays with it – he nudges it with his nose, shoves his bowl around and tries to tip it over. He’s been doing this for about a month now and it takes him at least a day to finish his meals. I started him on Friskies Active, then switched to Friskies Balance, and now I’ve tried Pedigree but it’s the same story. I was wondering if this is normal for a two-year-old? Health-wise he seems completely fine; he’s still playful, he’s drinking well and everything. Thanks in advance for your replies, have a good day. Cheers.

Hi everyone, My dog is nearly 14 years old. He’s always had a habit of picking out the bits of dry food he doesn’t like and leaving them next to his bowl (whenever it’s a mix). However, over the last few days, he’s started a new trend: he’s scattering his kibble all over the living room. If I point at the food and tell him to eat it, he just picks it up and moves it somewhere else. Sometimes he gives me that little ‘poor me’ look, as if he’s annoyed at having to tidy up his mess. I don't think it’s because he doesn’t like the food, as he still eats some of it (the bits in the bowl). But he never eats the ones he’s put on the floor. I honestly feel like he’s doing it on purpose. It’s all the same kibble, so it’s not a case of him not liking a specific taste or colour. Does anyone have any idea what might be going through his head? Have a lovely day, everyone :)

Evening, My dog does exactly the same! He takes a few bits of dry food, drops them right next to his bowl, leaves them, and then eats the rest of what’s in the bowl. When I catch him doing it, I point at them and say "look, you've missed some there" and then he eats them. ^^ I couldn't explain this behaviour, but he doesn't do it all the time anyway! Have a lovely evening. ^^

In the replies, one person said this:

My dog always eats away from his bowl.

It doesn’t matter where we put his bowl, he’ll take some dry food, carry it away from his bowl, put it on the floor and eat it. Then he goes back to his bowl and does it all over again.

He eats in all sorts of different places. I don’t know why he does it, but it’s a bit of a pain as he makes a mess everywhere!

See, you’re not the only one, so don’t worry. Good night!

Hi, how funny! I've never come across that before. I've just had a look online and you're not the only one with this issue, so it's not just a bit of OCD.

I've never come across that before, but it could well be a bit of OCD, couldn't it?
