Name ideas for my Malinois?

Hi everyone, I’ve just joined the forum to get some advice on training my two-and-a-half-month-old Malinois puppy!

But first things first, I’d love to find a name for him! Is it mandatory to give him a name starting with ‘R’? If it is, I’m completely stumped—I’m not really a fan of any I’ve found online, though I do quite like the name ‘Viking’ (don’t ask me why, lol!).

I’ll post a few photos so you can see his little face and hopefully help me come up with some ideas! :)

Oh, you know, even with a long name you usually end up shortening it or giving them a little nickname anyway. For example, ours is called Rackham but we often call him Rackou or Rackakou...

I think Ragnarök is a bit of a mouthful, but Ragnar is quite good too ^^

If you like the Viking vibe, the show of the same name (on Netflix) might give you some inspiration ^^

Right, thanks! So if I add an 'R' at the start, I can call him whatever I like? My mum suggested Ragnarök; I really like it, but is it a bit of a mouthful for a name? Also, one of you mentioned Reidun, which I think is quite nice!

I mean official shows, where they only accept Kennel Club registered dogs.

I think "Tchiko" would suit him really well.

My girl is KC registered, but she's an Anatolian Shepherd, so apart from dog shows... which we've got no interest in at all, so sod the rules, we called her Kanga (lol, the letter "K" is "forbidden").

In reality, the name (or the long-winded pedigree name) only needs to start with an "R" if you're planning on showing them; otherwise, nobody gives a toss, honestly, lol.

R’Viking or Royal Viking, 'Sly as a Viking'... you can really go to town on the official papers if you want to. Some people come up with proper long-winded names just for a bit of fun, but it’s really just to stick to the letter of the year. In everyday life, he's just Viking. Gally was registered by the breeder under the name Geisha.

Hi there, No, you don't have to give him a name starting with 'R'. If needs be, you can just give him an 'official' name for his registration papers and then call him whatever you like at home. For names: Magnus, Lepsius, Pumpkin, Jango, Ramses, Tommy... I think those would all suit him really well. 😁 He really is adorable, though! 😯

Hi there! First of all, he’s absolutely stunning!!!

Others might be able to give you more advice than me on whether you have to use an ‘R’ name or not, but I think it depends on whether he’s Kennel Club registered or not.

There are some great names starting with R: we called ours RACKHAM, after Red Rackham from the Tintin books. Rackham was a pirate and the name really suits him!!

If you want a Viking name, try to find one that starts with an R.

    Here’s a little list:

Ragna, Ragnfrid, Ragnhild, Rambjorg, Ramfrid, Randi, Ranfrid, Rannveig, Ranveig, Reidhild, Reidun, Reinhild, Runa, Runhild
