Hi everyone,

For a while now, I've noticed a strange brown spot in my dog's eye! Can anyone tell me if this looks like something they've seen before?! Please

He is 8 months old and has no abnormal eye discharge

And the spot is only on the white of the eye (sclera)

Thanks in advance

Hi there, If we’re still talking about that brown spot or patch in the white of the eye, and not an actual injury, a scratch, or whatever else, it’s still absolutely nothing to worry about. It comes and goes; I read somewhere that it’s just pigmentation caused by sun exposure—sort of like a light tan. There’s nothing you can do to make it go away, you just have to wait. And just to be clear, I’m definitely talking about a spot like the one in the original photo of this thread, not a wound or a scratch on the eye.

I’ve seen this sort of thing before with dogs and people I’ve bumped into, and it doesn’t seem to bother them at all. I reckon it’s probably just something that comes and goes. (Mind you, that’s just the opinion of someone who doesn’t really know much about dogs!)

My puppy has a similar mark that wasn’t there at first too. Is there any way to get rid of it using drops or something like that? I reckon it’s down to a minor injury from when he charges through long grass or similar while he’s running around.

My answer is the same as it was a year ago – it’s nothing... and it’ll easily wait until your vet appointment in 3 days, no worries.

The vet will be able to put your mind at rest 🙂

Hi there, I know this thread is a year old, but my puppy has the same thing. Did those spots end up being a problem? What did your vet say? I'm seeing mine on Monday. Thanks!

Okay, yes, that’s right – I am indeed talking about that brown shade! Thanks.

Keep an eye on it, but like Bangdji, I’m not too worried.

Just keep checking to make sure it doesn't change or get any worse.

To me, it looks like nothing at all. That little bit of brown shading in the whites (is that what you’re referring to?) seems perfectly normal to me.

Some dogs (among the ones I've owned or known) have it more than others, and some don't have it at all; sometimes it even changes over time.

I hope I'm not talking rubbish, but it wouldn't worry me.
