Hi everyone, Prince (an Australian Shepherd, about 50 lbs) has eaten half a Kinder Surprise :/ Is there anything I should do before he sees the vet? Has anyone else ever dealt with this before? The vet said that if he isn't vomiting or drooling it isn't an emergency... he's got an appointment with the vet at 4.30 pm.

Your dog's in no danger. In any case, by 4.30 pm it would’ve been too late for your dog anyway. If they’ve eaten chocolate, you’ve got less than two hours to either make them sick or get their stomach pumped; after two hours, the chocolate is already in their system. Your vet knows this—they’re just trying to get you to pay for a consultation. To make your dog sick, use one part hydrogen peroxide to five parts water. But in your situation, there’s no point. It takes 18 hours for chocolate to be fully absorbed by a dog, so your only concern is making sure they don't eat any more for the next 18 hours.

    Don't panic. It's nothing!!

No need for a vet even. Just keep an eye on your dog but, aside from some "runny poo", there shouldn't be much else to it. Most importantly, check if he’s actually swallowed the little toy. Same goes for that—just make sure it comes out the other end and that there aren't any issues with his digestion.

Chocolate is best avoided and can be toxic, but you have to keep things in perspective. It really takes a massive dose, or if the dog spends its whole life eating a square every single day!
