Hi everyone,

My 7-month-old Australian Shepherd has started limping on his back right leg, even though he hasn't had any knocks or injuries. He isn't whining or yelping either... I was told when I first got him that many Aussies suffer from hip problems... is it possible he's already suffering from this at only 7 months old?

Is he running too much? Or on the other hand, not enough? I'm really worried, thanks in advance for taking the time to read my post...

Hi everyone, my 4-month-old pup was limping on her front right leg yesterday. After a visit to the vet, they think it’s a sprain. She also had a very high temperature of 39.8°C, which we treated straight away with a shower and wet sheets all night. This morning she is limping again, but on her back left leg. Does anyone have any idea what it could be? I’ve got another appointment with the vet in 3 hours.

Right, fingers crossed it’s nothing serious.

Strict rest to help keep them comfortable in the meantime.

    Keep us posted...

Well, I’ve been to the vet and there are no fractures or anything. It seems he’s got some discomfort in his hip, so he’s on anti-inflammatories for four days. I’ve got a follow-up appointment in a fortnight—if he’s still struggling then, we’ll do an X-ray. If that shows severe dysplasia, he’ll need an operation... let's hope it doesn't come to that. Thanks for sharing your stories and for all the advice.

My Beauceron started limping for no apparent reason during a walk and wouldn't put her paw back on the ground. She wasn't whimpering and there was no visible injury, either.

Straight to the vet, and the verdict... she’s sprained a "toe" (as he put it ^^), most likely on a manhole cover 🤣.

Dogs don't (or rarely) show when they're in pain ;)

Thanks, I’m well aware no one’s a mind reader here. I was only asking for some advice, there’s no need to treat me like I’m thick. Thanks, bye.

I'm not 100% sure he hasn't had some kind of knock. I'm waiting for the vet to call me back so I can head over either today or tomorrow, depending on her schedule. Thanks for your time.

Yes, you need to see a vet straight away. Just because he isn't whining, it doesn't mean he isn't in pain. My six-month-old puppy had a double fracture in his knee and didn't cry once. It’s supposed to be incredibly painful, but dogs don't all react the same way. On the flip side, mine can start crying over absolutely nothing! So, in my opinion, that isn't a reliable sign to go by. Are you sure there wasn't some kind of knock? Accidents can happen so quickly—I know that from experience.

    Hi,

BeCool is spot on, this site isn't equipped with X-ray machines or the tools for a remote exam, get yourself straight to the vet!

    Have a good one,

    Yo
