Hi, there’s no follow-up to this – did the dog end up being pregnant?

Hi everyone, just thought I’d give an update. It’s still a bit early to know for sure if she’s expecting puppies, but she seemed to have some morning sickness after mating. The strangest thing is that she’s become incredibly clingy and affectionate now, much more than before. I’ve been reading up on the different stages of pregnancy and apparently these signs usually start appearing around the third week, but it’s only been two weeks since she was mated. 🙂

Hi there, When mating, "the tie" isn't actually mandatory and it doesn't mean the mating has failed. In fact, the male begins ejaculating immediately after penetration. The first stage of ejaculation lubricates the vagina, and the second stage (which happens in less than a minute) involves the secretion of sperm, which can then fertilise the female. A dog’s pregnancy lasts about 2 months (anywhere from 58 to 68 days). It can be diagnosed via an ultrasound scan (20 to 23 days after mating), but also through palpation, changes in her behaviour (she might become hypersensitive, nervous, or seek more affection), weight gain, and swollen teats.
