When do Pitbulls start to fill out?

Evening all,

I’ve got a 7-month-old Pitbull and I was wondering at what age this breed starts to fill out? I imagine it’s pretty much the same as it is for Staffies, so if any Staffy owners could help me out, I’d really appreciate it.

For anyone who isn't sure what I mean, it’s basically the age when the dog starts to broaden across the shoulders and chest, and especially the head, and stops growing taller. It’s also when they start getting a lot stronger; for example, mine can't hang from a tyre or a stick with his jaws just yet, even though he'll manage it easily when he's older.

Cheers in advance!

Hi there, Around 13 or 14 months, when they've nearly finished growing, their muscles will continue to develop gradually until they’re about 2 or 3 years old. Moderate, regular exercise and a healthy diet are key to having a well-balanced dog. On the other hand, over-exercising can cause limping or even joint deformities. Mind you, as for the idea of building up their jaw strength with these kinds of exercises, is it really necessary??? The breed already has a bad enough reputation as it is, and the sight of a dog hanging off a tyre or a piece of wood looks pretty bad. Plus, encouraging a dog to show that kind of tenacity leads to over-excitement, which can make them much harder to control if things get tense, and it unnecessarily fuels their impulsivity, natural stubbornness, or even their prey drive. If you love your dog, show it by doing your best with their socialisation and making sure they're friendly towards people and other animals.
