Hi everyone!

I’m wondering about the coat colour of one of my kittens, Zara. Her fur is solid black except for her neck and belly where the hairs are white at the roots and black at the tips!

So, I’d like to know if her coat is solid black or black smoke?

Here are a few photos

Black or black smoke?

Thanks

Still definitely not a black smoke; they don't look like that at all. Mind you, did your vet mention Vitiligo? It’s a rare condition but nothing to worry about at all. It leads to a gradual loss of pigment in the fur until the animal ends up looking all speckled; it's a very unique look.

If you’re still telling me she’s solid black after seeing this photo, I’ll just have to get used to the idea 😁😔

Hi! I’d still say solid, personally. I don’t think the fur looks white at the roots. Mind you, it’s always tricky to tell with a black cat in photos... 🙄

I don't think she's a solid colour, she has too much grey for that, and I can confirm the rims around her eyes and her lips are very light... almost white. Here are some new photos after a month; she’s currently shedding her baby coat for her adult one.

I reckon he’ll be a solid black. Usually, you can tell a black smoke kitten by the area around their eyes—it’s much lighter, almost like they’re wearing spectacles. He’s ever so cute and looks very dapper with his pink bow tie 😁

    Evening,

The kitten is still too young to say for sure. Some solid black cats have these kinds of highlights when they're very young, which usually disappear as they get older.

I’m not going to be much help myself, but I just wanted to say I love the photos 😁

Hello, It's quite difficult to be certain about your kitten's coat colour just from a photo. Here’s some info that might help: a black smoke cat, instead of having entirely black fur, only has black tips on the hair while the roots are white or pale. When you part your cat's fur, if the roots are white, then your cat is likely a smoke. In your case, the roots seem to be black as well. It looks like your cat might be a solid black with a white patch (or possibly smoke markings) on their chest. Keep in mind that as they grow, the coat can change in appearance and colour following different moults. Don't hesitate to ask your vet, as they'll be able to confirm the coat type for sure. I hope this helps, Have a lovely evening, Paul
