Kitten meowing in his litter tray

Evening all!

I adopted a Siamese kitten two weeks ago; he's lovely, in great shape, and has already been to the vet. He's eating well (kitten dry food mixed with wet food) and is very playful and curious...

From the very first day, he’s been sleeping in his bed and has used his litter tray perfectly—he’s never had a single accident!! I scoop the tray every day and do a full litter change twice a week!! However, for the last three days, every time he gets into his tray, he starts meowing non-stop while doing his business. I have a few questions:

Is he in pain?

Is he just not comfortable in his tray?

Does he not like the type of litter?

Is there not enough litter in there?

Any advice would be great. Thanks in advance!

Yes, that’s exactly what I was going to say!! If you see that your cat doesn't have any blood in their poo and doesn't have an irritated or swollen bottom, then they’re probably just telling you what they're up to ^^ Mine used to do that as well when she was using the litter tray as a kitten (she’s calmed down now and does it much less) and the vet told me she was just being chatty and telling me what she was doing :D but do double-check anyway....

Yes, his poos are normal and I’ve checked that he’s urinating normally too! But he only meows at the exact moment he’s doing a poo!! Could he be constipated?? While I’m waiting for the vet appointment, should I change his food?

I’ve also got a Siamese-type kitten, and she’s a HUGE chatterbox—she meows while she’s eating, playing, walking, and even when she’s using her litter tray.

As long as everything is okay (see Dellys’ question), your kitten might just be one of those naturally vocal ones! Good luck!

Evening. It sounds like it’s definitely a urinary tract infection (cystitis) or perhaps bladder stones. If your cat is meowing, he's clearly in a lot of pain. You should definitely get him an appointment with the vet as soon as possible.

    Are his stools normal?

Could he be a bit constipated?

    Unless he has cystitis.

Have you checked if he's actually passing urine when he goes to his litter tray?
