Hair stuck in my kitten's bottom

Evening all,

I'm a bit worried because I noticed a little bit of poo stuck to my kitten's bottom. My first instinct was to grab it to take it off, before realising it was attached to a hair! A hair that's actually stuck inside my cat's anus!!

Bad move, but I'd already pulled on the poo... I didn't pull very hard, but I did pull. The poo came away but the hair is still stuck so I'm not touching it anymore. She doesn't seem bothered by the hair being stuck. Could I have hurt my cat by pulling on the hair? If I have hurt her, how would I tell? Is this dangerous??

Just for info, I've found hairs in her stools a few times now; I lose a lot of my own hair and even after hoovering, they go unnoticed in some spots.

    hahahaha

Funnily enough, I feel so much better now I’ve found the poo in the litter tray! And after checking Bibi’s bum and not finding a single hair stuck there 😁

Yes, this is my first kitten ‘of my own’ as we had them at my parents’ house when I was younger. It wasn’t the same level of responsibility back then, though!

Time to pop the champagne! It’s crazy how relieved we feel when our ‘babies’ finally do a poo...

That’s lovely news for you and the kitten.

    Is this your first kitten?

Great news!! She’s finally been for a poo and there’s no more hair – I’m so relieved!

I’m still glad I’ve got an appointment with the vet tomorrow, though.

    Thanks so much!

    Hi,

I can still see the end of the hair stuck there. She hasn't had a poo since about 9.30 last night when I found some poo hanging from the hair.

    I hope she goes soon.

Like Blue Cat, I don't think a hair will cause any real issues, even if you’ve already pulled on it. Your best bet is to just snip it off. Most importantly, as someone else mentioned, never pull on a piece of curling ribbon or anything similar — it could literally tear their intestines. It’s the same if a cat swallows a bit of string; never try to pull it out of their mouth yourself, just take them straight to the vet.

Unless you've got really, really thick hair! (lol) It’s quite possible the hair just stuck because of the moisture in the gut, but it’ll come out the other end just fine in the next poo. No need to worry.

Yeah, exactly, that’s what I’d read... so do you reckon pulling a bit on the stuck hair won’t have the same consequences as if it were a piece of string?
