Spots around my cat's nipples

Hi everyone :)

I had a big Norwegian Forest Cat for 17 years, and after six months of grieving, I adopted a Persian kitten. Her name is Poupée and she’s 6 months old today.

But here's the thing, I’ve found some little black/brown spots only around her nipples. I’ve included some photos.

Just so you know:

- she isn't pregnant

- she doesn’t have fleas (she isn't scratching at all, and there’s no sign of fleas or flea dirt when I check with a flea comb)

- I brush her for ages every day (she loooooves it!)

As it hasn't really changed for two months (so, since I’ve had her), I figured it was probably just skin pigmentation. But I just tried rubbing them a bit harder (don't worry, I was still gentle!) and I realised that the little spots were coming off.

What do you think it is? Is it serious? Should I try to get rid of them or leave them alone?

I'm a bit lost as I've never come across anything like this with any of the cats I've known!

Thanks so much!

If it "wipes away", you can clean it with a gauze pad and some cleansing lotion, for example, but make sure it's fragrance-free, something like E45. If she isn't scratching, then it isn't parasites. Have you checked her skin all over and she only has them around her nipples? Is that the case for the 3rd photo as well? The vet appointment is in about ten days, so in the meantime, you can see if the spots come back. Have a good evening.

Thanks so much for the response! Yes, I’ve also read the thread about the pregnant cat ^^ No, she isn’t itchy at all, she isn't scratching, and she’s not licking herself there any more than anywhere else... I definitely plan on seeing a vet, but it’s very difficult at the moment...

    Hi there

I’ve done an image search online, but I couldn't find anything definitive that matches the third photo.

You really ought to take your cat to the vet to get a skin scraping or a sample analysed. It’s best to do that rather than trying loads of different treatments without really knowing what the problem is.

An important question: is it itchy? If so, they’ll probably be scratching quite a bit and licking themselves more than usual.

Itching usually points towards parasites first and foremost.

I’m sharing a link to a pet advice site (like the PDSA) which lists various skin conditions and types of dermatitis that might apply.

    https://www.pdsa.org.uk/pet-help-and-advice/pet-health-hub/symptoms/skin-problems-in-cats

I also found a similar case on another forum (there was a photo at the end of the thread), but it wasn't much help because the cat (an Angora) was pregnant and the discussion went off on a tangent; in the end, there was no real answer regarding those black spots 👌

I hope some more advice crops up soon.
