Spots around my cat's nipples

Hi everyone :)

I had a big Norwegian Forest Cat for 17 years, and after six months of grieving, I adopted a Persian kitten. Her name is Poupée and she’s 6 months old today.

But here's the thing, I’ve found some little black/brown spots only around her nipples. I’ve included some photos.

Just so you know:

- she isn't pregnant

- she doesn’t have fleas (she isn't scratching at all, and there’s no sign of fleas or flea dirt when I check with a flea comb)

- I brush her for ages every day (she loooooves it!)

As it hasn't really changed for two months (so, since I’ve had her), I figured it was probably just skin pigmentation. But I just tried rubbing them a bit harder (don't worry, I was still gentle!) and I realised that the little spots were coming off.

What do you think it is? Is it serious? Should I try to get rid of them or leave them alone?

I'm a bit lost as I've never come across anything like this with any of the cats I've known!

Thanks so much!

Hi, I’ve been using a lavender water spray and I’ve also applied a protective healing cream to her nipples. I’m just going to see how she gets on. My cat is also wearing a flea collar and I’ve left it on. I read somewhere that it could be a type of feline acne.

Couldn't it just be sebum spots caused by an overproduction? You can see little black dots in the fur like mini-scabs; I think you can get them off gently with some mild soap and water.
    I’m of the same opinion.

To confirm (or not), you can gently scratch one of the black dots with your fingernail; if it comes off painlessly after a few scratches, it’s more than likely they’re just simple blackheads. You could soak a gauze pad in some boiled water and give it a bit of a brisk rub to get rid of them.

Hi, did you manage to find a solution to your problem and, more importantly, the cause? If so, could you let me know as my girl has the exact same spots on her! Thanks in advance.

Hi there, My cat has the same issue (it’s even covering her nipples and forming a bit of a crust). She’s up to date with her flea treatment and she isn’t scratching at it either. Did you manage to get any advice from your vet?

    Hi Ulalie

Yes, it’s a bit of a strange one because I haven’t found anything similar online, and you can usually find something, especially with a photo.

Could it just be a bit of excess sebum? You can see little black specks in the fur, like tiny scabs. I reckon you could gently wash them away with some mild soap and water.

    Hi there,

If you have a regular vet who knows you, try sending them a message with these two photos attached—one from a distance and a close-up.

They’ll be able to give you some advice if they recognise what it is.

Thanks for your reply. Those marks have been there for the two months I’ve had her. And yes, they’re only around the nipples.
