Recovery suit after spaying

Hi there 👋

My little Selina, who’s 6 months old, went in to be spayed yesterday morning.

The vet gave me two options: a cone or a recovery suit. I went with the suit as I thought it would be much easier for her.

I’ve got an appointment in 4 days for a check-up and another in 10 days to have her stitches out.

I was just wondering how long I should keep the suit on her. I really don't want her messing with the stitches and ending up with an infection, but she does seem quite bothered by it.

Have a lovely evening everyone 😄

Evening, which recovery suit did you go for?

My little girl is having surgery at the end of the month and she’s a tiny little thing.

Good evening, my kitten Shipy was spayed last month. Her stitches were taken out 12 days later. She wore a recovery suit the whole time, but she was quite uncomfortable as it was a bit of a tight fit for her. Since she was calm and didn't try to pull it off, we ordered one online that was less restrictive but still protected the scar. A month after the op, her scar is already invisible!

Hi, when I had my cat spayed, I opted for a recovery suit and I really didn't regret it. She was able to eat and use her litter tray without any issues. I kept it on her right until she was fully healed.

Good evening. You should leave it on for the entire healing process, usually until the vet check-up... if you do take it off, it must be under your supervision only, otherwise she'll definitely lick the scar and pull at her stitches... at least, some of them do. You can take it off for a bit every now and then if it’s bothering her too much (recovery suits are generally much better tolerated than a cone)... but you need to make sure you can get it back on her.
