My cat is obsessed with the laundry on the airer

Hi everyone,

I’m posting because I’m a bit puzzled by something: my cat is irresistibly drawn to the laundry on the airer. As soon as there’s any washing put out to dry, he’s straight up on his hind legs, sniffing away with interest above his head, and trying to grab it or jump onto the drying rack. The thing is, the clothes aren’t moving or dangling, so there’s no obvious stimulation like there would be with a bit of string, for example. Since he sniffs it so much and sometimes tries to chew on it, is it possible that the scent of the washing detergent attracts cats?

Mind you, as long as the kitty doesn't shred the washing, I don't think it’s really an issue ^^

Well, yeah. Who cares? This post is pretty pointless. It’s just common behaviour for plenty of cats; there’s nothing out of the ordinary about it.

A forum is there for asking questions—ANY question. If you aren’t interested in answering, just move on, but I don’t see what gives you the right to be so rude...

Hi Jizzara, It’s true that there are some scents that some cats absolutely love, and others they can't stand. When I hang my washing out, my cat sits right under it too. She doesn't seem to be sniffing at it or trying to grab it, she just settles underneath (I have a small standing clothes airer). Have you thought about switching your detergent or fabric softener once or twice to see if her behaviour stays the same? Mind you, as long as your kitty isn't shredding the washing, I don't think it's much of a problem ^^
