Hi everyone, I’m not sure if this topic has been covered before (if it has, could someone please share the link?). Here's the problem: I have a male Persian cat, just over a year old, who was neutered about 3 weeks ago. He’s always been very well house-trained, but since being neutered, he’s peeing EVERYWHERE. It’s not urine marking (and he’s never done that anyway); it’s properly emptying his bladder on beds, sofas, any bits of paper lying around, clothes, etc...
I took him to the vet for an exam. They said his urine sample was clear but suspected cystitis, so we treated him for that. However, it hasn’t changed a thing and he’s still doing it (just so you know, he's peeing outside the litter tray about 6 to 8 times a day).
I’ve tried limiting his space (the second option the vet suggested), but nothing works. As soon as he leaves the room, he’s back to peeing everywhere...
Has anyone else ever been in this situation? I really don’t know what to do anymore; it’s becoming unbearable... thanks in advance.
PS: There are no new people in the flat, no new pets, and nothing else has changed in his daily routine except for being neutered. His litter tray is kept nice and clean.

Hi everyone, thanks for your replies. My cat has completely stopped peeing everywhere for about a week now; I think it really was down to stress. Restricting his territory like the vet suggested has worked – not straight away, but after a week it’s starting to take effect. He’s back to being cuddly and house-trained like he was before... So there we go, if anyone else is having this problem, it’s either stress or a urinary issue. Thanks again so much! (I hope this helps anyone in the same situation)
Evening, thanks for your replies. So yes, the vet said it was probably stress-related cystitis and gave me some medicine (Meloxidyl). He told me it should normally kick in quite quickly, but after a week of treatment, nothing has changed. And yes, he is using his litter tray, but then he goes and pees everywhere else... That’s why I tried to restrict his space to make him feel a bit more secure, but he’s still peeing all over the place (a bit less, admittedly, but about 3 or 4 times a day). So the vet told me that if the treatment didn't work, it was probably more of a behavioural issue than anything else... But I really don't know what to do now, he was always house-trained before he was neutered... Do you have any solutions to stop him peeing? A product or something? I've heard that some people spray white vinegar...
Capucine50, did your cat stop peeing everywhere after the treatment? Because mine definitely hasn't...
You’re saying he’s peeing 6 to 8 times a day outside his litter tray, so is he still using the tray as well?
6 times is already a lot, but up to 8 times or more sounds like a huge amount! I still suspect a urinary issue, perhaps idiopathic cystitis. It’s triggered by stress, which would match up with him being neutered. :)
Yeah, my cat had the same problem and the vet gave her some treatment. Did the vet give you some treatment for yours as well?
PS: Maybe it’s not exactly the same issue, so you might not need any treatment.
Bye 👋
