Cat licking the inside of my other cat's ears

Hi there. My cat has developed a bit of a habit lately of licking not just the head, but the inside of my other cat's ears. When she gets too persistent, I stop her, even though the other cat doesn't seem to mind, as I'm worried she might damage her eardrums. What do you think?

I'm taking the "licked one" for her booster jabs next Monday... I'll mention it to the vet and let you know what they say about it...

But in the meantime, I'd love to hear your thoughts. Thanks! :-)

Hi everyone, my girls are always grooming each other and both Kiara and Maïa lick the inside of each other's ears too, so no worries :)

Yeah, you’ve just got to leave them to it. Animals have their own social cues, so if the other one isn’t protesting, it means they’re happy with it. My cats have always done that.

I’d say just let her get on with it, as it shows how well your cats are getting on. It’s actually a really positive sign and there’s no way she’ll damage his eardrums. My cat does the same with my 3-month-old kitten; she licks his head and then his ears too ^^

    Thanks for your replies!

I think she’s licking her companion in the spots where she’d like to be groomed herself. I’ll let you know if the vet thinks I should avoid the inside of the ears.

She’s grooming him; that’s usually a sign they’re getting on really well ;)

I’m with Zanaya on this—you’ve just got to let them get on with it. My cats do the exact same thing; they help each other groom and wash the bits that the other cat can’t reach themselves.
