Semi-long or short coat?

Hi everyone!

I've been the happy owner of this cute Maine Coon kitten (fully registered pedigree) since the start of March, but I've got a few questions about his coat.

The sire and dam are, of course, 100% purebred and registered.

He was part of a planned litter of 6 kittens (long-haired cream/red and brown/black silver), but only the two red males have a shorter coat than the others. I should mention that the breeder took every precaution with this litter.

Here are a few photos from when he was 2 months old to 3 and a half months old.

I'd love to get your opinion! :)

    Hi everyone!

My little Maine Coon's coat is about this length as well. Is it possible to see what your cat looks like now, just so I know what to expect with my boy?

    Thanks :)

This is what a proper Maine Coon should look like:

This kitten is adorable, but I hope you actually adopted him (or paid about £170 at most to cover the microchipping and vaccination costs). If he was sold to you as a Maine Coon for a high price... well, you've been ripped off 😎

Are you sure he’s a Maine Coon? Is he registered? Anyway, coat length doesn’t change as they get older. Yours is short-haired and, now that he’s weaned, he’ll stay like that. He’s a very handsome boy as he is!

    Hi @folior,

I’ve adopted a Maine Coon and he’s also got short fur just like yours. I’d love to see what your kitten looks like now and find out if his coat eventually grew out? Thanks a lot for your reply.

    If you've got a photo...

    Is it a GCCF-registered MC?

    Or a pedigree MC?

    Hello.

My little Maine Coon, Alteha, is 3 months and 1 day old. She hasn't got much fur. Can anyone tell me why that is, please?

Here’s a photo of a GCCF registered Maine Coon kitten with colours similar to yours, just to put your mind at ease. Also, a cat that isn’t registered with the GCCF isn't officially a pedigree.

I'm no expert on Maine Coons...

Mind you, I don't think he looks all that different from the other two, especially since that slightly pinkish tone can trick the eye regarding the volume of his coat... basically, I think he just looks less fluffy because of that colour.

Also, I didn't quite get your point about the pedigree registration... either he’s registered (and his parents and grandparents are too) or he isn’t, which is a bit of a shame if you’re claiming he’s a pedigree?

    Hi everyone,

I’m looking for a bit of advice.

The first photo is of my Maine Coon; I’ve noticed his coat is really short compared to his brothers and sisters who you can see in the 2nd and 3rd photos.

He was the last of the litter — do you think he’ll end up being long-haired as he grows up?

He isn't GCCF registered. In your opinion, is he a purebred?

Thanks a lot for your help, I can send photos of the parents and grandparents as well 😊
