Hi everyone,
I’m posting today because I’m a bit worried about my Maine Coon’s weight; he really seems to be on the smaller side. He’s a male, neutered at six months, and is now one year and three months old but only weighs about 12.5 lbs (5.7kg). 😐
Granted, his parents were small-built too, but at 15 months old, I feel his weight is really low, especially for a male. He’s fed on Virbac HPM premium dry food, with the occasional bit of wet food (though he isn’t really bothered by it and eats very little). I’ve been measuring his daily portions and he eats between 60 and 70 grams of dry food on average.
Our last visit to the vet went very well and he considers him to be at his "ideal weight". It’s true that he doesn’t look skinny, but he isn’t putting on any weight either. His weight already started to plateau around the 8-month mark at about 11.7 lbs (5.3kg). I should add that his stools are firm (actually, he hasn’t had any digestive issues or scratching since being on Virbac HPM) and he’s very regular every day.
Anyway, he's my first Maine Coon, so what do those of you with more experience think? When I look on forums, I see plenty of one-year-old males that are already 17 or 18 lbs (around 8kg)! Mine is nowhere near that...
Thanks for any advice you can share.
