Why is she licking everything and anything?

Hi everyone,

For a while now, whenever my cat finishes grooming herself, she starts licking the objects around her.

Here are two videos of her to show you what I mean:

- the cushion on the sofa:

- the armrest of my desk chair:

Does anyone else have a cat that does this? Is it normal? 🙂

Thanks in advance!

I haven't got any solutions to offer, but my one-year-old girl licks just about everything and anything too ^^'. When I get home in the evening and sit on the sofa, she comes onto the back of it to lick my hair hahaha. She also licks the floor sometimes (even though it's clean!), and she licks my jumper on my chest every morning when I give her a cuddle before heading out...

To be honest, I can't really answer that, so I'll leave it to others to reply in case they know.

I've been out of work since March, so maybe I'm only noticing it now because I'm at home more often.

Or perhaps she's losing the plot (she is 14 and a half, after all :) )

Well, if there’s no worrying behaviour, then it’s probably nothing serious, but I still find it a bit odd that she’s only just started doing it lately...

I’ve already done that today, but I’d like to get as many opinions as possible 🙂

According to the assistant I spoke to at the vet's, it’s nothing to worry about; she’s licking things that have my scent on them, so it’s more my smell she’s licking rather than the object itself (and it’s true that as soon as she sees a bit of bare skin within reach, I get a lick from her raspy tongue—she’s always done that, mind you! 😁)

Well, I read somewhere that licking fabric could be a sign of a deficiency, so I’m not really sure what to suggest. Maybe just give the vet a ring to see what they think :)

Actually, she’s only been doing it for a few months (she’s 14 and a half now).

Hi there, so your cat hasn't always done this? I’m not 100% sure, but I think it might be a sign of a deficiency (vitamins or something similar...).
