Strange noises

Hi everyone,

I've noticed over the last few days that my cat has been making some strange throat noises... I’m not really sure how to explain it, but it sounds a bit like 'onch onch inch inch' to me.

She seems fine otherwise—eating, drinking, playing... she’s acting completely normally, really. It’s just these frequent little throat whimpers whenever she moves around.

It’s almost like she’s gulping for air or having little spasms...

I’m not sure if that makes sense, but could anyone help me figure out what might be going on?

LOL okay, I love cat videos too!

Yes, olive oil can help, but don't give them too much either.

That wasn't even everything I wanted to say! I'd written that I was totally smitten—I already loved cat videos, but this one is just too cute for words!

And I'd added in brackets, further down:

(I've put a teaspoon of olive oil in her dry food, hopefully it might help soothe her a bit.)

    She's gorgeous! 3 So cute, I’m already a sucker for cat videos but she’s just… :)

(I’ve put a teaspoon of olive oil in her dry food, to see if it gives her some temporary relief from her hairballs…)

Ooh, I’d rather not think about that for now, hopefully it’s just down to hairballs…!

Oh, it’s so funny brushing a cat! Sometimes they love it so much that you don't even need to move your hand, you just have to hold the brush and the cat does all the rubbing!

Mind you, it's worth noting that if she's still hacking after using the malt paste for two or three days, you'll probably need to look into other possibilities, but there’s no need to panic for now :) Brushing is also brilliant; I do it at least once a week, if not more, because Kiara has semi-long fur and it gets rid of a lot of loose hair. It stops it from ending up on the sofas or the bed and also prevents the cats from swallowing it. Yes, I think she’ll end up getting used to it; when she does that, you just have to ignore her :)

Alright! Thanks for the tip :) I'll definitely go and have a look tomorrow without fail.

Yes, it's true she does that with all closed doors, I just hope she'll get used to it eventually...

Thanks for all the info, you're always on hand with such great advice!

Well, you definitely won't find it at the chemist's. You can find it in pet shops, though keep in mind some only sell accessories. You could even check the big supermarkets; I'm pretty sure I saw some the last time I was in Tesco.

As for the meowing at the front door, it doesn't necessarily mean he wants to go out. Cats can be so fickle! We keep the bathroom door shut and sometimes Kiara meows in front of it for no reason at all; she wants to come in, but as soon as I open it, she wanders off lol! Mind you, since yours is used to being an outdoor cat it's only natural, but things will settle down.

On Zooplus: Trixie, Sanabelle or whatever, malt paste is pretty much always made the same way ^^

Yeah haha, I meant calming in an 'anti-depression' sense (I’m just worried because she’s a cat who’s used to the outdoors, hunting field mice and all that... and she’s realised the front door leads 'outside' and meows at it constantly).

I’ll check at the vet's, or a pet shop as a last resort.

One last quick question: what brand of wet food?
