Strange hole on his lip, looks weird

Evening all,

I'm writing because I'm quite concerned about a wound I discovered on my cat while I was back at my parents' house for the holidays. Since I haven't seen him for a few months, I've no idea how long he's been dealing with this...

He has a sort of large hole on his lip, almost as if a chunk of it is missing. It doesn't seem painful to the touch; he's still got a great appetite and his behaviour hasn't changed one bit. The wound is very clean and shows no signs of infection.

I've attached a photo of the injury so you can see for yourselves:

I spoke to an out-of-hours vet over the phone who told me not to worry and that it's likely just an injury from a scrap with another cat (he knows my Louis well, having looked after him since he was a kitten).

I still think I'll take him in next Friday just to be sure it's nothing serious. But in the meantime, I wanted to share this with you all to see if anyone has any similar experiences? And I'll keep you posted on my side as well.

Have a lovely evening

Hi, Did you end up showing this to the vet in the end? My cat has exactly the same thing in the same place (it’s identical). It’s worrying me a bit as I’ve never seen him with an "open" wound before. Hi, I’ve taken my cat to the vet several times since then. After various diagnoses and treatments, his wound has got much bigger (it now covers his whole upper lip) and none of the treatments are working (antibiotics, steroids...). But he doesn’t seem to be in any pain and is still eating well. I’m about to move him back to the flat to keep him indoors so I can better control his environment, while continuing the antibiotics to see if the wound finally heals up. Otherwise, I’m considering a hypnotist... Have you found any explanation on your end? Have a good evening!

Hi there, I’m guessing the injury is where their tongue is? Because in the photo, it just looks like the tongue is covering that spot. Otherwise, there’s really no reason to worry or take them to the vet (you’d just be paying for nothing, to be honest) as the wound is old, perfectly closed up and looks ‘neat’.
