Small scabs around the neck and ears

Hi everyone,

Before booking an appointment with the vet, I wanted to get your opinion.

I've just noticed that my cat has some small scabs on his skin; they're really tiny, only about 2 or 3 mm.

They're mainly around his neck (near his collar, which I've taken off for now) and a bit on his head at the base of his ears. I also found a single one further down between his shoulder blades.

He's scratching a tiny bit, but it doesn't seem to be bothering him too much.

Small scabs around the neck and ears

Thanks in advance.

Have a good weekend.

Nico.

THANK YOU KOLBEK THANK YOU!!! =) There's absolutely no point to vaccinations, except for the people selling them... thanks again... P'tite fleur, I’m not attacking you at all, please believe me, but the risks that 'might' happen, as you put it, are just the fears they instil in us just to get our pets vaccinated... it’s... if not a blatant lie, then at the very least it's marketing... That’s always how you sell a product, it has to 'fight' something... even if the threat is fake... a bit like terrorism... lol...

Just a heads up... fleas can carry feline infectious enteritis... which is fatal for an unvaccinated cat...

and you can bring all sorts of nasties in on the bottom of your shoes as well... but that’s just my two pence...

    no wormer either!!!!!

No... I’ve always had cats, ever since I was a little kid at my parents' house, and no, we never did the jabs. They always lived to 17 or 18 and were in great health, actually...

Well, no, the little guy’s never had any issues... He hasn't been to the vet since he went in to be neutered, really... He’s only 4, mind you...

    Hi there,

And thanks for the photo, it really helps to "see" things a bit more clearly...

Looking at the areas where your cat is affected, I'd lean towards an allergy to flea saliva...

Fleas inject a sort of anaesthetic so they don't get caught too quickly when they bite to feed, and many of our pets develop adverse reactions to this...

It's worth checking out, of course, as there are so many possibilities, as mentioned before... ;-) ... (stress, food or environmental allergies, etc.) but often, allergies look a bit different to what’s in your photo... and in this case, it's located where the cat can't easily bite or scratch to get rid of the fleas.... something to keep an eye on..

It doesn't look too serious in itself... whatever it turns out to be...

Anyway, you won't get to see the vet before Monday; they’re usually quite busy on Saturdays and as your little one’s case isn’t an emergency, I doubt you’ll get an appointment. So, you’ll see how things are looking by Monday.

What surprises me and makes me think it won't just clear up on its own is the fact that there are several spots. One of mine had a small scab on their temple recently; I treated it with some Betadine and it went away, but it was only in one place and I think they probably just got a little scratch (I’m fostering some kittens at the moment). But in your little one's case, it seems a bit different to me.
