Reaction to sneezing

Hi everyone, I’ve got a question about my cat’s behaviour.

Every time I sneeze or cough, he comes running and meowing at me. If I have a coughing fit, he keeps meowing and practically sticks his face against mine. His meow sounds worried and inquisitive; I can’t really explain it any better than that.

I’ve read a few times that cats might be annoyed by these noises, which is why they act out. But I don’t get the feeling that’s the case here. He reacts even when he’s right at the other side of the room. Another thing, he doesn’t just do it with me, he does it with my sister too, but that’s it! If anyone else is in the room (besides my sister or me), he doesn’t even react. I don't understand why.

If anyone has seen this kind of behaviour in a cat before, I’d love to hear your theories!

Hi there, It’s actually quite common. Whenever I sneeze, my two cats just stare at me, looking really worried. Cats have incredibly sharp and sensitive hearing, so these strange noises coming from their beloved owner’s mouth can be a bit unsettling for them. Since you and your sister are their primary attachment figures, it explains why they have such an emotional reaction.
