Pine sap on my cat – how do I remove it?

Hi everyone!

I'm looking for your tips and tricks, as my cat has come back from outside with pine sap on his fur (he’s always hanging around a pine hedge).

To get it off, do you think using a bit of sunflower oil on a flannel and dabbing it on the resin would be safe if he licks himself? (Obviously being very careful not to leave him completely covered in oil!)

Thanks in advance for your help! ☺️

    Hi,

You can definitely use oil to get rid of the sap, as oil isn't toxic for cats.

The only real "risk" if they happen to ingest too much is weight gain. However, they aren't going to pile on the pounds just from having a bit of oil on their coat! So, no need to worry at all in your case.

If it still doesn't budge even with the oil, the only other option is to trim the fur, though it might not look very pretty...

    Best wishes,

    Laura
