Hello, Maya had four kittens a week ago; three were stillborn, and the fourth survived until last night but has now passed away. The problem is that she keeps carrying it to me wherever I go, then she lies down next to it and licks it while crying. I know I'm going to have to take it away from her, but how? She's crying so much and won't stop licking it; she's just put it back in her basket next to me now. I feel so sorry for her, and what about her milk? What's going to happen with that? I don't know what to do, if anyone can help... it's absolutely heartbreaking!

Thanks in advance

First off, I don't think keeping the kitten's body is going to help matters at all. He needs to be laid to rest; he can't stay in the house indefinitely. Bury him in your garden or look into cremation through a pet crematorium if you'd like to keep his ashes. Maya is going to need a lot of support; it’s completely normal that she’s calling out and bringing him to you, but if you let her keep him it’ll only make things worse. However, if you do bury him in the garden, try not to do it in front of Maya—she’d be more than capable of digging him back up :/
